Vincent Blasi earned a B.A. in economics from Northwestern in 1964 and a J.D. from the University of Chicago in 1967. There, he studied with the renowned First Amendment scholar Harry Kalven, Jr., and was a law review editor and member of the Order of the Coif. He specializes in the areas of Constitutional law, Torts, and his principal interest is in the First Amendment. He taught law at the University of Texas from 1967-69; the University of Michigan, 1970-82; and, as a visiting professor, at Stanford, 1969-70; the University of California (Berkeley), 1978-79; and William and Mary, 1991. Blasi joined the Columbia faculty in 1983 and came to UVA as a visiting professor from 1997-98. A First Amendment Scholar, Blasi taught courses in state constitutional law and first amendment theory. He became Massee Professor of Law at the University of Virginia in 1998. That same year, Professor Blasi was one of five law professors in the nation elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
