Study carrels are located on all three floors of the Law Library. Some are marked as "reserved," but others are open for private study use on a first come, first served basis. Reserved carrels are available by the semester to faculty research assistants, L.L.M. and S.J.D students, and law school journal members. Visit the circulation desk for carrel assignments.
Standing desks have recently gained popularity at corporations like Google and Facebook, but they're not a new thing. It's believed that Thomas Jefferson, Winston Churchill, Virginia Woolf, and Ernest Hemingway all used standing desks. The Law Library offers you the opportunity to follow in their footsteps while enjoying intellectual pursuits of your own.
Ten adjustable height standing desks are now in the Law Library. You'll find them on the 2nd floor near the Collaborative Classroom and the north end of the reference study area by the windows. Studies show that standing desks help to improve focus and the ability to plow through tasks.
While some students like the carrels for their "private fortress" feel, others prefer open space such as that of the stately Caplin Reading Room or the study tables located throughout the second floor. If you need to power your laptop, plugs are located along the walls near the windows. There are plugs on the floors as well. If you need to borrow an extension cord, they're available at the circulation desk.
