Hours and Contacts  

The law school building is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. Law students, faculty and staff may access the building during “lockdown” hours by swiping their ID cards at any of the scanners positioned outside of the main entrance doors on every side of the building.

This service is for students, faculty, and staff of the University of Virginia. We will respond to other inquiries only if related to a resource unique to the Law Library.

You can expect an initial reply within 24 hours. If you don't hear from us within 48 hours, please call our Reference Desk at (434) 924-7465.

Our librarians answer specific questions about our holdings and provide research guidance, but we cannot interpret the law or provide legal advice. If you need assistance in analyzing a legal problem, please consult with an attorney.

In many instances we will provide references to resources available electronically, but if your inquiry requires consultation with on-site materials, we will ask you to schedule an appointment with a reference librarian.
