Mary Anne Case came to Virginia in 1990 from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York City, where she practiced law as a litigation associate. She taught courses in constitutional law, European legal systems, feminist jurisprudence, and regulating family, sex, and gender. A magna cum laude graduate of Yale in 1979, Case took graduate courses at Ludwig Maximilians Universitaet in Munich, then earned her J.D. cum laude from Harvard in 1985. In 1993 Case received the Bankard Fund Award for Political Economy for her research on comparative German-U.S. contract law. She served as chair of the Association of American Law Schools Section on Comparative Law. She became the Class of 1966 Research Professor of Law in 1996. She joined the University of Chicago law faculty in 1999.
